Avengers Endgame Review

Avengers Endgame was definitely my favorite movie of 2019 and in my top 5 movies of all time let me explain why this movie was just that good for you. First of all, if you watched infinity war the movie basically ended on a cliffhanger and endgame continued that storyline which is probably why it was so highly anticipated, people really wanted to see what happened after the first movie which makes sense. The main plot line involved the Avenger’s time traveling into the past to get all the infinity stones before Thanos and using them to snap everyone back into existence. If you watched any fan theories before the movie came out then you know that almost no one saw this coming and that’s one of the reasons why I loved this movie so much, it was a completely different plotline than I had expected which was really cool to see.  This was some of the best storytelling in a superhero movie I have seen in a while and the intimate and important moments between many of the characters were what made it so good. For me, it was Iron Man and Captain America working together. After all, the last time we saw them on screen together was Captain America’s Civil war which happened back in 2016.

Steve and Tony going together to get the Tesseract was probably one of my favorite parts of the movie purely because we got to see the same characters from previous Marvel movies but through a different perspective this time. Like when we got to see the Avengers from the original Avengers movie through the eyes of the Avengers in this current timeline it was really cool and watching old Captain America fight the current Captain America was both funny and really fun to watch. Speaking of fighting, the fight scenes in this movie are really well choreographed and have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. The ending scene with the final battle really puts the VFX effects to the limits and makes the entire thing look beautiful. Not to mention when Captain America says the words Avengers assemble for the first time it literally gave me chills.

Another funny scene I should probably bring up is when Steve grabs the Tesseract from the Hydra agents from the 2nd Captain America movie and quietly whispers in their ears “hail hydra” and gets the Tesseract without any fuss because they think he’s on their side which is really funny. One of the more underrated parts of the movie was how well Marvel was able to develop Hawkeye into a more important character during Endgame, in the other Avengers movies I didn’t think much of his character and thought he was more of a side character but in Endgame he definitely played a big part in making it so good. Another underrated part of endgame was how well it set up new shows and solo movies for different characters the biggest one being Loki when he grabbed the tesseract by accident and used it to escape to a different timeline which then sprung into the Disney plus show.

The biggest strength of the movie was how it really drew out the audience’s emotions when dealing with the death/ending of the characters. So many character storylines kinda ended with Endgame like Black Widow dying to get the yellow infinity stone, Iron dying and Captain America going back in time to live his ideal life with Peggy. Seeing Tony’s dad, the red skull, Peggy Carter and all these other small character cameos really kept you interested and on the edge of you sat the whole movie as well. But of course, we have to talk about Iron Man dying, probably the most leaked movie ending ever because everyone knew Robert Downey Jr’s contract was up which I kind of wish I never knew because it did somewhat ruin the movie knowing that my favorite character was going to die but whatever. Iron Man had a pretty good send-off with him snapping the infinity stones and saving the universe from Thanos in one of the coolest final battles to ever exist in a superhero movie.

It will be interesting to see if Marvel ever brings back the Iron Man character because he is just so popular or whether this truly was his ending forever. Nonetheless, I think this movie had little to complain about and lots to love with the thrilling action scenes and the thoughtful storyline with interesting plot twists throughout the whole movie to keep you interested.

  1. Avenger’s Endgame is also a favorite movie of mine for many of the same reasons that you do as well. It was the culmination of 11 years of movies that led to the most epic team up of superheroes for any franchise in history. I was not happy about the cliffhanger at the end of Infinity War because at that point I was able to watch most television shows or movies without having to wait a long period of time. Now that I am older, I realize how awful it is and has been for fans of shows and movies who needed to wait weekly for episodes to release or years for a movie sequel to come out. My favorite part of the film was when Captain America lifted the hammer as that will be a moment I remember for the rest of my life. No other movie will ever get the audience to scream and cheer as loudly as they did during this movie, or at least for another couple of decades until marvel does it again. I also got the deaths of Iron Man and Black Widow spoiled but not Captain America. This was a movie that needed to be seen as quickly as possible before people spoiled as quickly as they could.

  2. Hello Myuren, this blog post is so interesting! While I don’t know much about Marvel, this blog post is definitely intriguing and kept me updated as it is very detailed. Similar to you, I know many people who’s favorite movie was Endgame for awhile. I have seen some clips of the film, and I agree that the storytelling was phenomenal…it connected very personally to the audience which doesn’t always occur successfully throughout films. I really like how this movie wasn’t like the other marvel movies…as it was a mix of multiple marvel movies. Yes, the cliffhanger at the end left me so stumped. I remember in middle school, when this movie came out, people were still talking about this film months after it was released. Also, didn’t this film surpass the profit charts, as it was extremely popular? I feel like the emotional aspect of the film was very strong, especially for the genre it is apart of. Yes, everyone was constantly on the edge of their seat as you don’t know what to expect. I hope iron man comes back! I completely agree, this film is filled with thrills, action, joy, sadness, all of the above! Thank you for the post Myuren!

  3. Hi Myuren, I had to respond to your blog just because I am also a really huge Marvel fan. I loved Avengers: Endgame and I remember all of the hype that was involved after having watched Avengers: Infinity War. I remember the anticipation building up as I really wanted to know how the Marvel characters would undo the Thanos snap that literally erased half of all life in all parts of the known universes. I loved how the producers were actually willing to kill off characters as the two films progressed because that made us, as viewers, realize that everything that was taking place didn’t keep any of our favorite heroes safe from harm. Then the interweaving of humor during their time traveling trip to when Captain America was fighting his past self, I thought was really funny and I think was one of the most memorable moments in the entire movie. I also loved all of the callbacks to previous MCU films like Sam Wilson’s, “On your right” to Steve Rodgers when all hope was lost was just an absolutely immaculate moment. I think Avengers: Infinity War was still a little better just because it set up the next film, and I thought the idea and discovery of time travel technology felt a little bit too rushed in Avengers: Endgame. Though, Endgame will still always be one of my favorite movies of all time for the rest of my life.
