As senior year is coming to an end and the new journey of college is coming around the corner. All of my college applications were left in 2023 and now it’s time to wait. While waiting and for the future I want to try some things before I start this new journey. These are some hobbies or places I want to go before that.
- Crochet
I have been on a deep dive through crocheting, at first it was one or 2 videos now there are thousands coming up on my youtube. At first I just used them to fall asleep too but after a while I started wanting to make it. While watching I realized you could make a thousand types of designs. There are also ways to make clothes which would be cute too. I want to try making little stuffed animals.
- Cooking
My love for cooking is not nearly the same as my love for baking and I hope to change that. I can make the few basic staple dishes but after that I cannot cook anything. For me cooking is not as fun as baking is. For example in bread making you can watch as the dough doubles in size the yeast convert sugar into gas creating gluten. Having to have all the measurements perfect in baking has made me love it rather than the free spiritedness of cooking. Going into college and later living by myself I need to be able to feed myself of course. It’s not like I can spend my life eating baked goods for every meal. I especially want to learn how to make cultural meals. My mom has always made dumplings ever since I was young. I would watch her make them on the kitchen counter and sometimes I would help in wrapping the meat with the wrappers. However, one day I want to learn the whole recipe before I start living alone.
- Hidden spots in Chicago
I took Chicago history last semester and I ended up realizing that I have not really explored Chicago. I have gone a million times to the more famous areas like the bean. Although I have not yet explored all of the other areas. I would love to go to P.O.S.H where they sell unique vintage pieces. With the store having a mix of all different types of pieces I think it would be a good place to find some treasures. I also feel like I haven’t checked out any of the art museums, I only feel like I have gone to 1 in my life. Although I don’t remember the experience since I was a child. Now I don’t really feel like I will get all the art pieces. I think it would be a good time to explore and learn.
- Horror movies
As a kid I would turn my head away to scary movies, to the point where I would not even watch the movie at all. I would sometimes even leave the movie theater in fear, as a child I had really bad nightmares which is probably my reasoning as a kid. Although growing up I have stuck with that fear, never trying horror movies again. I think its time to break out of my shell and try a different movie genre. Although I might need some moral support so my friends will end up going too.
- Stained glass art
A year ago I had ended up finding stained glass art on youtube. My favorite channel was where this girl ran her own little studio where she would teach her students how to make it. The video was so calm that it looked fun to do. It doesn’t really seem that hard also although that might have been because she was a professional. What drew me to it was how you could make these stained glass pieces into a little box or however you wanted it. The pieces were kind of like wood that you could use to make new things out of. Now once the sun hits it, it turns the room magical as the glass reflects colors onto the walls.
These are my hobbies and activities that I want to do this year and all throughout my life. A quick list of the fun new things that I want to do before I don’t have time again. I hope that everyone can have a few new hobbies that would make you less stressed. Now with the new life changes I am about to experience I am excited how everything will be!
Hi Biswo, this was such a fun post! I totally second the crochet interest: I see so many videos on my FYP of people making crochet octopus stuffies, adorable tank tops, bags, and more. It seems like so much fun, and once you get the hang of it, the possibilities of things to make are endless. Cooking also seems great to get into, especially as we go into college. I agree that it can seem less fun than baking, especially since I love eating baked goods and pastries more than anything. However, it’s definitely a good life skill and can be pretty rewarding once you start making delicious meals. I’m also looking forward to exploring Chicago more this semester! POSH sounds like such a cool place to explore, and Chicago’s art museums (especially the Art Institute) are amazing as well. While I personally cannot watch horror movies for the life of me (I get nightmares and am just plain scared), I hope you’ll have a better experience. Overall, this list sounds really interesting; have fun!
Hi Biswo,
Are we the same person? A lot of the items on your list are things that I also want to do before I leave for college- we’re on the same wavelength for sure!
I recently got back into crocheting and it’s been a great way to relax, especially after a stressful college application season. With enough time, patience, and yarn, the possibilities truly are endless! My favorite item I’ve made so far is a sweater top that’s somewhere between a shrug and a crop-top, and I’m looking forward to many more projects.
While I admit that I’m not much of a horror movie person, one movie that I did (eventually come to) appreciate was “Blair Witch Project.” One of my friends had been wanting to see it for a while and she finally convinced us to watch it during a sleepover. Maybe not the best decision, seeing as none of us were able to fall asleep for hours afterwards but it was definitely an interesting premise and execution. I will say though, if you’re going to watch a horror movie, definitely watch it with your friends. That way at least you’re in it together!
Best of luck with the list,
Anna-Maria 🙂
Biswo,
Awesome post! Love all the ideas you have sprinkled throughout here. Maybe I’ll steal a thing or two from here as well (shhh). I think I can agree with you on cooking – that’s a super cool idea and definitely a practical one as well. I kind of envy good cooks – I’ll look more into that in the future.
I also didn’t really know you had such a diverse set of interests here! From stained glass art to hidden spots of Chicago, that’s super cool stuff the more I read about it. This kind of reminds me of my “Fat Bucket List”, where I thought about meetin new people in new places to get more perspectives about the world. But now I’m starting to think: hey why stop at people? Why not places? That seems to be a really cool thing to do.
Enjoyed your post a lot! And good luck on exploring and getting the most out of senior year!

Biswo, great post, with senior year coming to an end and senioritis in full swing, this blog was a good reminder for me to maximize my time and every moment during my remaining time in high school. One thing I have found new enjoyment from is thrifting with friends and have been trying to plan a trip to Chicago to shop and eat. In addition to spending time with friends, I have slowly started to teach myself how to cook simple meals, hopefully, which would help me survive in college. Along the lines of art, for me creating an airband group has challenged me to dance, exploring my own abilities. Are you doing an airband group? I truthfully hate horror movies, I get too into the movie, and then my friends end up messing with me, and it just doesn’t go well, especially when the last credit says “based on a true story”.
Hi Biswo! I feel like we have a lot of overlap on these goals. Although I don’t have a definitive bucket list, I just kind of think of things that I would like to do eventually and then forget these goals, I totally agree with your list and some are on my imaginary bucket list. I think that stained glass art is so interesting and I have never really thought about doing that, but in my mind it sounds super fun. It reminds me of all of the crafts that I have started and never finished, maybe I should finish them sometime. I took Chicago History last semester too and I also think it would be super fun to explore some hidden spots in Chicago and revisit the Art Institute.
Hi Biswo! I really enjoyed reading about the hobbies you’re interested in starting before you go to college. I definitely agree with wanting to learn how to cook better and with more variety. I am always impressed when people are able to cook meals without recipes or just improvising, and it’s definitely a good skill to focus on before moving out. Another thing that I agree is a great thing to do before moving away is to explore Chicago more. I go to Chicago fairly often because my dad lives there, but I definitely feel that I have been to the same few neighborhoods over and over, and it would be nice to see different parts. I also really like the stained glass butterfly; that seems like an interesting hobby to try as well!
