Hey Kate! I enjoyed your blog post and thought how it was unique since your first reading experience wasn’t in English. It was also nice to hear how due to you not viewing reading Chinese as a chore, you enjoyed reading. I have always had a strong belief that if you view something as a chore, it will never be enjoyable for you. I also liked you mentioned that learning the language would help you connect to your heritage. As someone whose second language is English, I think being able to connect to your culture through language is one of the best feelings. Even though I never learned how to read or write Bengali, speaking the language opened up so many avenues of communication for me, and you hold the same belief in your post. I am glad that you look back on your earliest reading memories with comfort. I hope reading continues to bring you joy as it did in the past!
Thank you for sharing your reading journey. Mrs. Zhang sounds like a proper reading mentor. Do you still read Chinese? Keep it a part of your reading schedule?
