Currently, I own 20 pairs of Converse high tops. Yes, I am aware that this is highly excessive. But, I’ve slowly been accumulating these high tops from my birthday, Christmas, and various Converse sales/clearance since freshman year. Based on the sheer number of Converse I own, I figured, what better to blog about than my Converse? I like to say that I have no favorites out of all my high tops, but I actually do, so here are my top 6 pairs of Converse.
#6: Converse x GOLF WANG Chuck 70 Flame
These Converse, I would argue, are the coolest ones I own. I would not say that I am in any way a “sneakerhead” because yes, I own a lot of high tops, but none of them are collectibles/limited edition, except for these. I had been looking to get these shoes for a while, but they went out of stock pretty quickly after the release. When they went out of stock I just accepted that I wasn’t going to get these, because I was not going to pay reseller prices for these shoes. But, this past October when I went to Boston, I stopped at the Converse Headquarters Flagship store, and they were selling them at face value. What I like about these high tops is the contrasting colors. There’s a brown base with light pink flames outlined in electric blue, with the same blue on the soles of the shoes. I can’t describe them more than just, that they’re really cool.
#5: Chuck Taylor All Star Embroidered Stars
When I was choosing my top 6 high tops, I gravitated towards my shoes that have memories attached to them. This pair, for example, has two very distinct memories attached to them. The first took place during a Spanish 3 blended period last year. My friends and I decided that we would walk to DeEtta’s during blended, but it had been raining all morning. So, while walking, we went to cut across the baseball fields, took one step onto the field, and began sinking into the sand. When I tried to step back out of the sand, I slipped on the wet grass and fell into a puddle of mud. Because of this outing, you can still see remnants of the baseball field and mud on these high tops. These Converse were also the ones I wore to my favorite concert of all time so they remind me of that concert.
#4: Chuck Taylor All Star Forest Green High Tops
This is the the most plain pair of shoes you will see on this list, but you can never go wrong with a classic plain pair of Converse high tops. I own these plain high tops in two colors, this one and snorkel blue. But, I have to say I do like the forest green a little more than the snorkel blue just because green is my favorite color. The green high tops are also more wearable with my everyday wardrobe, so I often find myself wearing these more often than many of my other pairs.
#3: Chuck Taylor All Star Lift Floral Embroidery Shoes Egret
After about 20 minutes of searching through the Converse website, old screenshots, and Google, I found the official name for these Converse. I almost didn’t think they existed anywhere anymore. Not only are these high tops super cute, but after wearing them for the first time, they reminded me how much I like platform Converse. I used to not buy platforms because I’m already pretty tall, but after I got these high tops I realized that I do like wearing platforms. Along with that, these are one of the two pairs of Converse I took with me on my trip to Europe last summer (the other pair is my #1 ranked pair) so they remind me of all the adventures I went on during that trip.
#2: Peanuts x Chuck Taylor All Star ‘Snoopy and Woodstock’
Even though I typically find it difficult to find an outfit to match with these shoes, they are ranked highly for their fun design. Each side of the high tops depicts a different scene of Snoopy and Woodstock along with some other doodles by Charles M. Schulz. The designs on the Converse show the personalities of Snoopy and Woodstock that are seen throughout the Peanuts franchise, which makes the shoes super fun. Plus, I am a big Snoopy fan and grew up reading and watching the Peanuts cartoons.
#1: “Custom” Chuck Taylor All Stars White High Tops
The reason I call these Converse “custom” is because yes, they are custom in their appearance, they’re not made custom from the Converse website. These Converse were made custom by my best friend for my 17th birthday. This is also why these high tops are #1 on my list, because of the sentimental value that these shoes hold. My best friend hand-drew every doodle on my high tops, despite having almost zero artistic training. These high tops are also probably the most worn on a day-to-day basis. All in all, my favorite of all my high tops.
Though these are my top 6 high tops that I own, I think I can’t finish writing this blog without giving an honorary mention to the pair of high tops that got me back into wearing Converse. I had two pairs in 6th grade, but quickly ditched them for Vans and Nikes, but when I was going into 8th grade/high school (I don’t remember exactly) I got the pair that pushed me to own the number of high tops that I do now. I still actually own that pair of high tops because I refuse to throw them away. I wore them throughout high school up until junior year and they are the shoes that I’ve worn to every single high school dance I’ve attended. I don’t know how they’re still functional, but they’re hanging in there.
All in all, I can’t think of one pair of high tops that I own that don’t have some sort of memory or sentiment attached to them. Some of them have meaning because of who gifted them to me while others have meaning in where I’ve worn them and the story I have from that day.
What a great idea for a blog. 20 pairs of converse is a bit out there. But I enjoyed reading your thoughts. thanks you for sharing.
Kayley, the amount of Converse you have is insane. However, your blog was extremely entertaining to read and I think it would be really cool to see your whole collection one day. I absolutely love the Peanuts x Chuck Taylor design, I think that it’s so cute and unique. I agree with how you say that shoes hold memories or at least some type of sentimental value, and wearing them always seems to bring these memories back. I fully understand your choice for the number 1 spot. They’re completely unique and no one would have a pair like yours, which makes them the most special and important. I like how each of the photos you included makes the shoes look worn, meaning that they’ve been put to good use! Overall, I really enjoyed reading your blog, and I look forward to seeing any additions you decide to add to the collection.
Hi Kayley! Your blog was so entertaining to read, and reminded me of some of my favorite memories with you that I’m sure some of your Converse were a part of. I also own a concerning amount of shoes, although I only have two pairs of Converse. They are both the Lift platform because I find them a lot more comfortable than regular Converse and also because I like being tall. I remember that rough trip to DeEtta’s; I’m pretty sure I was also wearing a pair of Converse and getting all that mud off was not fun, but watching you fall was <3. I really like the embroidered ones that you have because Converse with designs on them are always my favorites. I can’t wait to see what pair you get next!
Hi Kayley! First off, I am very envious of your collection of converse. 20 pairs is quite the collection. I just always feel guilty about buying the same shoe even though converse high tops are a classic and they’re always good. I really like your fourth choice, the forest green high tops. This is a biased choice since green is my favorite color too. Your number 2 pair, the peanuts converse, was very interesting to me. I had no idea that converse and peanuts had a crossover. I also have a pair of beat up white high tops, similar to the last picture you included.
